Mini Camp went over well and was a great opening start of official practices. Coach Weathers and the staff were
pleased with the work ethic showed by the team during a weekend of practices that are often considered the
most grueling of the season. The team broke camp with excitement for the upcoming 4 way team scrimmage.

The 4 Way Scrimmage is a 4 team formated scrimmage that enables each participating team to get game feel
competition in prior to the start of preseason. The scrimmage is held in a controlled fashion where coaches are
actually on the field working with their units between snaps. Officials (referees) are present to help better
prepare the athletes for how a real game would be called. That opportunity is usually great experience for rookie
athletes from College and High School programs who are not accustomed to Professional Football rules. Each
team limits the number of plays starters participate against each other, thus giving rookies and 2nd team
athletes good experience that will better prepare them when they are called upon during the regular season.
THE TEAM
The team looks to get its first taste of contact in the coming weeks during their four way scrimmage. The four
way has become the kick off to the start of preseason in recent years. Unlike previous seasons though, the four
way scrimmage is scheduled much earlier than the start of preseason and should help the coaching staff get a
strong idea of the where the team is at.

A focus for the offense will be to see how the running game pans out with the recent additions of Running Back
Josh Cross and Center Dorian Ford. Cross was a highly recruited All State Back for State Champion Montrose
High School before an injury sidelined him for half of his senior season. Due to the injury, he accepted a
scholarship to Michigan State for Wrestling, a sport he was a three time state champion in. Ford is resigned from
2006, a season where he was placed on the unable to perform list and was never able to see competition. His
addition helps solidify an offensive line who's projected starters are LT Zach Rivest (6'5, 250), LG Josh
Wentworth (6', 314), C Dorian Ford (6'2, 345), RG Brad Lyon (5'11, 261), RT Andrew Kroesing  (6'3, 324).
Combined, the offensive line would average just under 300 pounds per athlete. If they learn to play together
quickly, such a line has potential to be very effective.
AROUND THE NAFL
More changes occurred to the Great Lakes Region recently. The former Grass Roots Division has returned, and
with it the loss of the Cleveland Cardinals back to their old division. Added to that division, anchored by the
Pittsburgh Colts, are the Rochester Renegades of New York and the North Ohio Pirates of Columbus. The
Renegades will travel to Atwood Stadium this season in place of the Cardinals and the Patriots will end the
regular season with a trip to Columbus.
ON THE WIRE
Two more additions will be covered in this installment of the Patriot Insider. Both are expected to be contributors
during the 2007 season, their rookie year in the NAFL:

Joshua Cross, RB, 5'10" 240 lbs. - Montrose, Michigan
The Michigan State University product was a three time All Genesee Area Conference Selection, twice at RB
and once at LB for Montrose High School. Additionally, he was named Honorable Mention All State at RB. He
helped lead MHS to state titles in both football and wrestling as well as capturing three individual state
championships in wrestling.

Dorian Ford, C, 6'3" 345 lbs. - Newellton, Louisiana
Ford earned All District, All Area, and All State Honors as a Defensive End at Newllton High School. He went on
to receive a Scholarship to Mississippi Valley State University before later transferring to Eastern Michigan. He is
expected to make an easy transition to offensive line, where he also earned All District honors in High School.
